CT Dose Standard to Affect Reimbursement Rates for Hospitals

Starting in January 2016, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will begin reducing reimbursement rates for CT scans performed on equipment that doesn’t meet a standard known as NEMA XR 29-2013, aimed at reducing patient dose. As many as one third of hospital outpatient CT scanners may need to be replaced, according to The Joint Commission.
