The US Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights has issued a guidance document that explains what ransomware is and how to stop it from taking hold of—and ransoming—sensitive data. The July 11 document Ransomware and HIPAA instructs healthcare organizations to identify ransomware threats through risk analysis, establish plans and procedures to defend against those risks, and improve training.
