The Colorado Association of Biomedical Equipment Technicians (CABMET) has introduced free CBET flashcards and crossword puzzles, available at CABMET’s study resource page. Below, CABMET President Leticia Reynolds shares the inspiration behind these new study tools.

24×7 Magazine: What inspired CABMET to develop CBET flashcards and crossword puzzles?

Leticia Reynolds: This is something we have wanted to do for quite a while after selling the online CBET review to AAMI in 2019. We realized there was nothing like this available. There are flashcards available, but not on a mobile device. Having access on a mobile device turns any downtime into a possible study session, making it easy to study at any time.  The flashcards were originally handwritten flashcards that came from one of our members who was studying for the CBET test.

24×7: How do you determine which topics or questions to include in the flashcards and crossword puzzles?

Reynolds: The topics follow the CBET test outline from the AAMI handbook. They are broken into the same categories as the CBET test.

24×7: What are the criteria for expanding the flashcards and crossword puzzles offering in the future?

Reynolds: It all depends on the use and demand for this product. I’m sure we will be expanding between now and November, a little bit at a time. There are so many opportunities for this product, so we will just have to see what the users want.

24×7: How can users provide feedback, and how will CABMET use this feedback to improve the study materials?

Reynolds: Right now, it’s in a testing/trial stage and is free to everyone. We had several of our CBET members review the flashcards for accuracy, but if there is anything that might have been overlooked during that process, we would like to hear about it. Also, if users have more ideas for flashcards, we would like to hear that too. Comments and feedback can be sent to [email protected].

24×7: Anything else 24×7 readers should know?

Reynolds: The next CBET testing period is November 1-15, so we hope to release this for those taking the test this fall. They can start going through the materials and studying at their own pace. We’ll likely get a lot of feedback after the test. [After all,] the techs we have talked about are eager to start using them.
