The association has more than doubled its membership since 2017, spanning medical device industry, sterilization, and healthcare technology management professionals.
The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) has reached a milestone of more than 15,000 members across its core constituencies in the medical device industry, industrial sterilization and sterile processing fields, and healthcare technology management sector.
The nonprofit organization has more than doubled its membership since 2017, representing health technology professionals and organizations leveraging AAMI’s standards development, educational programs, and certification offerings.
“AAMI is gratified to have reached this historic threshold,” says Pamela Arora, CEO and president of AAMI, in the announcement. “On behalf of AAMI, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our members for their contributions to AAMI’s standards committees, educational efforts, and the charitable activities of the AAMI Foundation.”
Diverse Membership Base
Founded in 1967, AAMI focuses on developing national and international voluntary consensus standards. Its membership includes medical device manufacturers, industry leaders, healthcare professionals, health IT and AI specialists, and government representatives working to improve medical device safety and patient health outcomes.
The organization serves as a neutral convener of global experts in standards, sterilization, and healthcare technology management. AAMI provides guidance and resources, mentorship opportunities, training and certification, and networking events to its members.
Future Growth Plans
AAMI plans to expand beyond its primary constituencies to seek new areas for member growth, including dental equipment technicians responsible for maintaining medical devices.
“We look forward to a bright future where, in conjunction with members new and old, AAMI continues its leadership in the pursuit of the safe and effective use of health technology,” says Arora in the announcement.
The organization encourages individuals and organizations interested in joining AAMI or contributing to voluntary consensus guidance document development to contact its membership team.
