The trophon3 and trophon2 Plus are designed to automate high-level disinfection, improve workflow efficiency, and enhance digital traceability for healthcare facilities.

Nanosonics Inc has announced the release of its trophon3 system and the trophon2 Plus, a software upgrade for its existing trophon2 device. Now available in the US and Canada, the new offerings are designed to provide automated high-level disinfection (HLD) for ultrasound probes.

According to the company, the trophon technology uses hydrogen peroxide to deliver consistent disinfection, helping to reduce the risk of cross-contamination between patients. The system is intended to address the persistent challenge of device-related healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), which can result from reprocessing failures or inconsistent disinfection practices.

The trophon3 system features a 4-minute cycle time and incorporates digital traceability to assist healthcare facilities with workflow management and audit readiness. For enhanced data management, the system includes the AuditPro Compliance Management System, which offers RIS and PACS integration and DICOM support.

“The launch of trophon3 and trophon2 Plus set a new benchmark in automated HLD for ultrasound transducers, upholding the trophon technology’s market leadership position,” says Michael Kavanagh, CEO and President, in a release. “These launches reflect our commitment to innovation, customer support, and ongoing expansion in this important area of infection prevention.”

Device-related infections remain a significant concern in healthcare, with the company noting that reprocessing failures have been linked to patient exposure and documented outbreaks. Automated systems aim to reduce the potential for human error and create more reliable disinfection processes.

“The trophon3 technology reinforces our commitment to safety, sustainability, and streamlined operations—delivering unparalleled infection prevention with every cycle,” says Ken Shaw, President, North America, in a release. “This launch marks a significant milestone in our journey towards a safer and more efficient healthcare environment.”
