Welch Allyn, a global provider of frontline medical products and solutions, recently received the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals’ Communitas Award for the company’s “A Show of Hands” volunteer initiative. The award recognizes 30 businesses throughout the US and Canada for excellence in community service and corporate social responsibility. The award honors companies for specific programs involving volunteerism, philanthropy, and changing the way they do business to benefit their communities.

In July 2011, the Welch Allyn “A Show of Hands” program saw over 400 employee volunteers help out at over 20 nonprofit organizations across central New York, and another 250 employees were stationed at the Welch Allyn headquarters assembling military aid, school supply, and homeless shelter care kits. The company also expanded its campaign to include its Beaverton, Ore, facility, where over 110 employee volunteers gave their time to seven nonprofit organizations across 12 different locations in the greater Portland area.

Criteria considered for Communitas nominees include the extent and effectiveness of the service programs
