The suspect allegedly stole over $100,000 in surgical equipment and skin grafts.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the theft of more than $100,000 in medical equipment from a Southern California hospital, according to a release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

Jason Brauner, a resident of San Jacinto, allegedly committed the thefts over three separate incidents in June and July 2025, gaining access to restricted areas of the facility by dressing as hospital staff.  Authorities report he wore blue scrubs and a surgical mask to blend in with personnel and bypass security measures at a hospital in Rancho Mirage. The stolen items included high-value surgical equipment and skin grafts.

Brauner was detained on Aug 6 after his vehicle was stopped by deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. A search of the vehicle uncovered stolen medical equipment and hospital apparel. A subsequent search warrant served at his residence led to the recovery of additional medical supplies valued between $10,000 and $25,000.

The investigation has expanded, as authorities have identified Brauner as a suspect in similar thefts at hospitals in Loma Linda and Newport Beach. Partner agencies are preparing to file additional charges. Brauner was booked on multiple charges, including grand theft, commercial burglary, and possession of stolen property. The investigation remains ongoing.
