The Joint Commission will host a conference discussing the new changes in leadership standards that take effect in 2009.

With a focus on patient safety, hospital CEOs and CNOs as well as department heads and managers will benefit from the Leadership Standards and Patient Safety conference on March 5 in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.

The Joint Commission has identified four key pillars that support effective performance, including leadership structure, leadership relationships, organization culture and performance, and operations.

The conference, which fulfills 6.5 hours of continuing education credit, will address leadership as a key component in maintaining patient safety in the organization. Attendees will learn the best methods for managing conflict, developing a culture of safety, getting the board actively involved in quality and safety activities, and using quality and safety data effectively.
