The Joint Commission has named Robert Campbell, PharmD, and Linda Seager, RN, MSN, as co-directors of its Standards Interpretation Group (SIG), which provides interpretation and application of accreditation and certification standards for Joint Commission staff and health care organizations.
Campbell will oversee SIG functions related to standards for ambulatory and office-based surgery and hospital programs, as well as the medication compounding certification program. He also will serve as The Joint Commission’s first director of medication management.
Seager will oversee standards interpretation for behavioral health care, home care, laboratory, deemed-status psychiatric hospital, and nursing care center programs, as well as health care staffing services and disease-specific certification programs.
“I am delighted to promote these talented and dedicated colleagues to leadership positions,” says Ana Pujols McKee, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer, who oversees SIG within The Joint Commission Division of Healthcare Improvement. “While directing the work of our Standards Interpretation Group, they will continue to significantly impact The Joint Commission’s work with healthcare organizations to consistently improve the quality of healthcare and patient safety.”
A licensed registered pharmacist in Florida and a Six Sigma Green Belt, Campbell most recently was pharmacist in clinical standards interpretation at The Joint Commission. In this role, he served as subject matter expert for medication management-related topics, providing guidance to organizations and surveyors in standards interpretation, and supporting the accreditation and certification processes across The Joint Commission enterprise.
Campbell continues to survey as a field representative in the Hospital Accreditation and Critical Access Hospital Accreditation programs, and as a reviewer for Medication Compounding Certification.
Campbell came to The Joint Commission with many years of experience in health care organizations including leadership positions with oversight of performance improvement, accreditation readiness, risk management, infection control, medical staff services, and inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services.
Seager has served as SIG’s senior associate director since January 2017, and most recently as interim director. In this role, she has been responsible for providing interpretation of all Joint Commission standards with special emphasis on standards issues, as well as direction and leadership to surveyors addressing interpretation of standards and survey processes. She also participates as a consultant in the development and revision of standards and survey processes and supports ongoing accreditation services and special projects.
Previously, Seager was a surveyor for The Joint Commission for 26 years in Home Care and Hospital accreditation programs.
