After developing and curating knowledge and guidelines for the medical community, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is releasing Complete Dialysis Collection: 2020 edition, a comprehensive collection of 14 dialysis standards from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), AAMI, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The book is a singular point of reference for organizations, facilities, and their diligent dialysis professionals.
“There’s a lot of overlap for who this book for. It contains information that’s beneficial for everyone to know from manufacturer to end users,” says Cliff Bernier, director of standards at AAMI.
This includes the latest versions of the five-part series for ANSI/AAMI/ISO 23500 dialysis fluid standards—an industry go-to for recommended practices and requirements. Prior to these new versions, the series was last updated by the international community four years ago. “This recommended practice, like any other, must be reviewed and updated periodically to assimilate progressive technological developments,” the authors write. “To remain relevant, it must be modified as technological advances are made and as new data come to light.”
According to Bernier, this is the prevailing reason for Complete Dialysis Collection’s 2020 release. In past decades, AAMI would release a new compilation of dialysis standards every few years. However, as medical information and standards alike transitioned to a digital space, there appeared less need for a single book. Now, however, the progress of technology has led to a need for the book once more.
“Medical knowledge and technologies are always improving, and it can be difficult to keep track of it all,” Bernier explains. “This new 2020 edition and the editions that follow will give people an easy way to stay up to date on a regular basis.”
New editions of the book will be regularly released to keep pace with the rapidly changing dialysis landscape. The Complete Dialysis Collection: 2020 edition is available as a downloadable PDF in the AAMI store. It is also available on demand as a bound, physical book.
