The platform is designed to integrate with hospital systems to observe patient rooms and assist clinical teams.
LookDeep Health, a Silicon Valley artificial intelligence (AI) company, has unveiled aimee, a staff and patient assistant that uses sight, sound, and language to support clinical teams in real time.
The system works by observing the physical hospital room environment to monitor events, such as a patient getting out of bed or a conversation between a doctor and patient, and responds when needed. According to the company, the platform is designed to integrate with hospital systems, including EHR, nurse-call systems, and other smart devices. This approach differs from AI assistants that work only with existing data in the system, as aimee is intended to operate alongside staff by observing the real world.
For clinical staff, the platform functions as a virtual assistant with real-time awareness of the room. It can be directed to check on a patient’s pain level or provide reminders for breathing exercises. For patients, the system is available 24/7 in more than 50 languages to translate, explain information, or listen, while keeping the care team informed. The company notes that the AI does not provide medical advice.
“Healthcare innovation typically advances in incremental steps, but aimee feels like a leap forward,” says Maria Russo, MBA, chief information officer at OU Health, in a release. “aimee has the potential of being an AI assistant that can understand the room, speak with empathy, and integrate into caregiver workflows, which is a significant shift for hospitals.”
Clinical Context and Development
LookDeep Health is working with co-development partner Nexus Bedside to create specialty-tailored training modules for the platform in areas such as orthopedics, neurosciences, and oncology care. The company also plans to offer educational extensions that will provide real-time, scenario-based teaching for clinical learners.
“In hospitals, the moments that matter most can’t be scheduled or scripted. We built aimee to be ready for them—able to see, hear, and respond in real time,” says Narinder Singh, co-founder and CEO of LookDeep, in a release. “The pace of AI in Silicon Valley shapes every aspect of what aimee can do. We keep up so hospitals can focus on care.”
LookDeep is currently offering live interactive demonstrations for hospitals and has opened a Technology Collaborators Program for device makers and digital health partners to integrate aimee into their products.
