As hospitals are increasingly charged with treating sicker patient populations, patient deterioration often goes unrecognized. Surveil­lance monitoring, the practice of monitoring patients who have not been identified as being at specific risk, can help increase safety, enhance quality of care, and improve hospital workflow.
