As part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) efforts to ensure medical device cybersecurity safety, the FDA is sharing the discussion paper, Communicating Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities to Patients: Considerations for a Framework, for review and comment. Feedback on the discussion paper will help inform future efforts designed to improve cybersecurity safety communications, including the potential development of a cybersecurity communications framework.

The FDA seeks further input from patients, patient advocacy organizations, the medical device industry, clinical researchers, and others to assess the best approaches to communicate with patients and caregivers about specific and relevant cybersecurity events that may affect public health.

The FDA encourages stakeholders to provide comments in the Federal Register under docket number FDA-2020-N-1933. The last day to submit comments is December 21, 2020.

To read the discussion paper visit the FDA.
