The 185-bed Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, located in Thibodaux, La, has recently converted to Covidien Nellcor OxiMax pulse oximetry technology and sensors.

The Covidien technology incorporates cardiac-based signal processing algorithms that help clinicians track blood oxygen levels and pulse rates, even during difficult situations such as signal interference or low perfusion. Some of the benefits of the Covidien technology include multiparameter monitors and Covidien specialty sensors—specifically the Max-Fast forehead sensor, which is more responsive than digit sensors, and the SoftCare nonadhesive sensor.

Covidien sensors are also disposable, which assists in the facility’s commitment to lower hospital-acquired infections, a serious issue that results in 99,000 annual deaths and costs hospitals $20 billion.
