The House Appropriations Committee has passed a bill to increase the FDA’s budget in 2008, earmarking $240.1 million in funding for Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH).

The Senate Appropriations Committee also passed an FDA funding bill, providing more money for the agency than the House version but only giving CDRH approximately $182 million.

The Senate version of the bill would provide $1.76 billion for the FDA in fiscal 2008—an increase of more than $185 million over fiscal 2007 and nearly $120 million more than the president’s request, Sen Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) said.

The House bill increases the FDA budget by $128.5 million from its fiscal 2007 budget to $1.69 billion.
