A monthly look at what’s shakin’ with local biomedical associations

The California Medical Instrumentation Association is inviting everyone to the first Friends and Family Day Picnic and Barbecue. Come see old friends, make new friends and meet everyone’s friends and family. The event is at Brannan Island State Park in Rio Vista and will be held July 28 and 29. There’s camping, fishing, canoeing, swimming and countless miles of Delta boating fun! Bring food, beverages, ice chests, bikes, fishing gear and yourself. For more information or to RSVP, contact Greg Duncan ( [email protected] ) , Rico Brown ( [email protected] ) or Bill Knight ([email protected]).

Heartland Biomedical Association met in March at the Midlands Community Hospital and received a briefing on the latest electrosurgical technology by Ron Barnes of Valleylab, including a first look at Valleylab’s Ligasure device.

Orange County Biomedical Equipment Technician Society selected new officers: President Payman Roshan of Patriot Medical Technologies, Vice President Tom Heyser of St. Joseph Hospital-Orange, Secretary Dariush Yaghoubi of Patriot and Treasurer Dan Lara of St. Joseph Hospital-Orange. Concluding a long term of over eight years, past-president Stan Richards and past vice president Dean Fanara will remain advisors on the Board.

For the May meeting, Karl Storz Endoscopic division treated 35 members of the Colorado Association of Biomedical Technicians to dinner brought in from Brothers BBQ and provided education covering surgical procedures, including the proper setup and connection of carts and what each unit does, and a breakdown of the internal workings of endoscopes. CABMET reports it was an excellent learning opportunity.
