The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), is a nonprofit organization that provides training in the development, management, and use of safe and effective medical technology. AAMI will be holding a December 18 live web conference from 1:00 to 2:00 PM eastern time titled “Disposable Leadwires: What I Need to Know and Why I Need to Care.”

According to an announcement from AAMI, the webinar will focus on the use and implementation of disposable lead wires. The topics of discussion include the pitfalls and challenges that can arise when using disposable lead wires, and how standardizing lead wires can simplify patient transfers and reduce usage costs. Those attending the live webinar will receive one (1.0) contact hour of credit.

This webinar aims to prepare attendees to recognize how implementing disposable lead wires can impact clinical practice, to analyze the various standardization methods and their effect on ease of use and cost, and to describe how to standardize a facility to use disposable lead wires.

The trainer for this webinar will be Jeff Wiser, technical service engineer, Infection-Prevention Division, 3M.

According to the AAMI announcement, this webinar is important because when disposable lead wires are disconnected—either at the patient cable or at the monitor—and travel with the patient, that same set of lead wires must be connected to the patient monitor in the next location. This patient transfer presents a unique set of challenges that are not always obvious, driving the need for lead wire and clinical practice standardization. Lead wire standardization is key for a successful disposable implementation that can improve the patient experience.

The webinar on disposable lead wires is intended for nurses, clinical engineers, healthcare technology managers, and materials managers. Associated staff and co-workers may listen in for one price. To learn more, or to register for this webinar, visit the AAMI website.
