The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is offering a December 11, 2014 web conference on home healthcare technology from 1:00 to 2:00 PM eastern time. According to an AAMI announcement, the webinar, titled “That Stupid Machine is Alarming Again: Transitioning Hospital Technology into the Home,” will help address the challenges of a rapidly increasing need for delivery of healthcare in nontraditional settings.

Offered through the AAMI Foundation’s Healthcare Technology Safety Institute (HTSI), the webinar features a presentation from Pediatric Home Service (PHS) on how they are managing pediatric home medical equipment to enable pediatric patients to live safely and successfully at home. The session will focus on the benefits of biomedical personnel, and the process of equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. It will also address how PHS develops its home healthcare plan and trains caregivers to focus on home device medical management. Attendees will receive examples of tools created to advise caregivers when things go wrong with patients or their medical devices.

Speakers for this webinar are Judy Giel, AAS, RRT, chief clinical officer, Pediatric Home Service; and Roy Maynard, MD, medical director, Pediatric Home Service.

The webinar is intended for hospital clinicians, medical device manufacturers, home caregivers, and anyone that is involved in the discharge of a patient requiring sophisticated medical devices.
