Philips announces the availability of Ambient Experience, its soothing patient environment, to the Panorama High Field Open (HFO) magnetic resonance (MR) scanner.
The unique configuration was recently installed for the first time at Lawrence General Hospital, a private, not-for-profit acute care hospital in northeast Massachusetts.
Instead of receiving treatment in a tube with limited views, patients can now be imaged in an open MR while taking in coastal, mountain, or safari scenery. Ambient Experience integrates architecture, design, and technologies, such as soft lighting and sound, to allow patients to personalize their environment and experience a more relaxing atmosphere.
“Patients appreciate the option of being scanned in the open MR,” said Brian P. Murphy, MD, medical director, department of radiology, at Lawrence General Hospital. “They are engaged from the moment they walk through the door.”
